Standing People Together is a new constituent-led grassroots program of Waste for Life based in Sullivan County, NY. Our work is driven by the belief that connecting people to people and people to nature bridges the fissures within our community by promoting an ethics of care, cooperative interchange, and shared purpose to effect positive social and environmental change.
Standing People Forest Exploratorium provides space in a natural environment to explore and critically reflect upon social and environmental issues. Using Forest School inspired methods and pedagogies we assist people in learning new skills and applying those skills to achieve greater impact in their professions, avocations, and activisms.
One of our ongoing projects is the development of Forest School pedagogies in the public school system, by offering a two day nature-based professional development course for school teachers that is supported by Sullivan 180 and accredited by BOCES (Boards of Cooperative Education Services) of New York State.
Standing People Staging uses a variety of media – performance, theatre, film, art, and writing – to collectively probe issues that are relevant and meaningful to our pluralistic community.
